School tours at The MUC are FREE! We love to host your classes and give them the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom. Our school tours can either be self-guided, staff-guided, activity-focused, or a mix. School tours must be scheduled in advanced. Please fill out our form below to schedule a school tour. A staff member will contact you to confirm dates, times, and activities.
Activities We Offer
Scavenger Hunts
We have various scavenger hunts available that work well for all ages. More scavenger hunts can be printed upon request, or custom made with a specific topic in mind if notice is given at least 3 business days in advanced.
Guided Tours
Staff members are happy to give guided tours if requested. Tours can be planned for any age group. These can include conversations about specific areas of the museum or a mix of multiple areas of the museum.
Pinch Pots
The pinch pot activity is great for Kindergarten to First Grade aged children. The activity uses non-drying clay. The students will not take home the pinch pots they create but will be given a recipe for homemade playdough.
Picture Rocks
Picture Rocks are our most popular school tour request. The activity is great for Second Grade and up. This activity discusses symbols and context. The students will take home the picture rock they designed.
Weaving
Weaving is a new offer for our school tours and works best for Third Grade and up. This activity works best if students know how to tie simple knots beforehand. Students will be able to take home the craft.
Candle Making
Candle making works best for Fourth Grade and up. The activity will teach about inventions and how things have changed over time. Students will dip candles into wax, and they will be able to take home the craft.

Tips for a Great School Tour
- Prepare your students with lessons pertaining to what they will be learning in the museum and inform the museum staff on what the students are learning for us to create the best lesson for them.
- Review the museum rules (which can be found below) with students before visiting the museum. A great time is on the bus or when preparing for the tour.
- Share the museum rules with the chaperones, or guide them to this same page so they know what to expect and are ready to assist with this great learning opportunity.
- Reflect on the school tour and the things that the students learned when back in the classroom, and don’t let them forget all the information they learned outside of the classroom.
- The most important thing is to have fun! School tours are a great resource to bring learning outside the classroom.
Museum Rules
We want everyone to have a great experience while visiting The MUC and during school tours we are still open to the public. There are also many fragile artifacts on display that we would like to preserve. We encourage you to have conversations about our museum rules before your visit but we will do a refresh on them when your group comes to the museum.
- No yelling
- No running
- No touching
- No flash photography
- No food or drink
- Most importantly though, have fun!
